Timothy James

"Precious to God"

I was admitted to the hospital on Dec. 8th because my amniotic sac was leaking and I had begun to dilate. I was ordered to lie flat on my back until the baby came ( I was due April 2nd!). Well, on Dec. 17th my water broke at 7:15pm and Timothy James decided to come early. He was breech and already on his way out, so the doctor did an emergency C-section and at 10:20 pm he was delivered. He went straight to the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) and has been there ever since. Timothy was only 25 weeks along in his development (a "normal" pregnancy lasts 40 weeks) so he still has a lot of growing to do.

Psalm 127:3 "Behold, children are a gift from the Lord . . ."

We have definitely been enjoying our little gift, especially during the last 3 days!

Actual Age: 6 months
Adjusted Age: 2 months
Weight: 6 lbs. 6.6 oz.

As you can see Timothy has really been gaining weight over the last 2 weeks. This weight gain needs to continue over the next couple of weeks.

He has now been weaned off the ventilator for the last 3 days and is doing very well!

He now takes 50-60 cc's of breastmilk by bottle! That's 1 1/2 to 2 ounces each feeding! It does burn extra calories for him as he works hard to suck from the bottle. Hopefully, with more practice, his suck will become more efficient and it will be less work for him. We are also practicing breastfeeding 1-2 times a day.

He has lots of wakeful periods during the day and seems to sleep pretty well at night.

Praise - his ph was in good balance this morning (less acidic)
- he is doing great off the ventilator
- he is feeding from the bottle extremely well
- follow-up eye exam today looked good; he will be evaluated in 2 weeks again

Prayer - continued healing of the eyes
- good weight gain
- we have some really big decisions reagarding health care to make in the next week or two. we need wisdom and clear direction

Our Little Sailor

Ahoy there matey!
Happy Father's Day Daddy!
Since daddy's favorite sport is soccer, mommy and Timothy had a little "photo shoot" to create some special pictures for daddy's first Father's Day!
I'm ready to play!
It's all about strategy.
This is serious business.
Focus - Focus - Focus
Boy, did that feel good!
Proverbs 3:26 " For the LORD will be your confidence. . . "

We have been trusting God each step of the way during these last 6 months and we will continue to do so.

Timothy is slowly being weaned off the ventilator. He spends several hours each day off the ventilator and breathing on his own, with only some extra oxygen to support him. He will definitely require extra oxygen when he comes home and there is a chance that he may still be on the ventilator for a few hours of the day or night. We will have to see how he progresses over the next 2 weeks.

His doctor is beginning to talk again about the possibility of sending him home soon. She has not given us a specific time yet, it all depends on Timothy's progress.

Praise - He is tolerating his time off the ventilator very well
- he is currently on very few medications, just a few to help with the acidity in his body due to his compromised kidneys
- he has longer and more frequent periods of wakefulness
- his left arm (the broken one) is showing good bone formation which means it is mostly healed!

Prayer - increased kidney function to rid his body of the excess acidity
- strong lung development
- healing of both eyes from surgery
