Timothy James

"Precious to God"

I was admitted to the hospital on Dec. 8th because my amniotic sac was leaking and I had begun to dilate. I was ordered to lie flat on my back until the baby came ( I was due April 2nd!). Well, on Dec. 17th my water broke at 7:15pm and Timothy James decided to come early. He was breech and already on his way out, so the doctor did an emergency C-section and at 10:20 pm he was delivered. He went straight to the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) and has been there ever since. Timothy was only 25 weeks along in his development (a "normal" pregnancy lasts 40 weeks) so he still has a lot of growing to do.

Psalm 40:5 "Many, O Lord my God, are the wonders which You have done, and Your thoughts toward us; there is none to compare with You. If I would declare and speak of them, they would be too numerous to count."

We definitely identify with this verse. God has done so much, just in the past month, it overwhelms us sometimes how marvelously He cares for us!

Weight: 13 lbs. 10.5 oz.
Length: 24 + inches

Sorry it has been a while since the last update - we had some computer problems but hopefully they are resolved now.

Anyway, our doctor visits the last 2 weeks kept us busy, but they went very well.

The optometrist said that Timothy is nearsighted in the right eye and the left eye is still not measurable, which means he currently probably does not have much sight there because the retina is still detached in the place that affects vision. We will be getting glasses for him in the next 2 weeks.

The pulmonologist is pleased with the progress of his lungs and said it is very important to continue to try to keep him as healthy as possible.

The dietician added a new medication to raise his phosphorus levels because they were too low and that can affect growth.

The developmental doctor and therapist are pleased with his developmental progress and said it is time for him to start receiving occupational and physical therapy. He will be evaluated On Tuesday, Feb. 1st and then will begin therapy sessions. Currently, he is holding up his head very well, even on his tummy (although he doesn't really like that position), reaching for toys, shaking and pulling and mouthing anything he can get his hands on, rolling to his side and sometimes his tummy, practicing waving "bye-bye" and on top of it all we are waiting for some teeth to cut!

Praise - all appointments have gone very smoothly
- Timothy is continuing to grow and develop on his and God's timetable
- He has remained fairly healthy for the last month

Prayer - Friday, Jan. 28 we have a swallow study scheduled to evaluate his ability to swallow. This will show if the tonsils are causing a problem or if there are any other physical limitations to his swallowing/taking food by mouth efforts. They have to get him to swallow a special liquid which could be a real challenge since he won't let food into his mouth. Please pray for us!
