Timothy James

"Precious to God"

I was admitted to the hospital on Dec. 8th because my amniotic sac was leaking and I had begun to dilate. I was ordered to lie flat on my back until the baby came ( I was due April 2nd!). Well, on Dec. 17th my water broke at 7:15pm and Timothy James decided to come early. He was breech and already on his way out, so the doctor did an emergency C-section and at 10:20 pm he was delivered. He went straight to the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) and has been there ever since. Timothy was only 25 weeks along in his development (a "normal" pregnancy lasts 40 weeks) so he still has a lot of growing to do.

Psalm 31:19 "How great is Thy goodness, which Thou hast stored up for those who fear Thee, which Thou hast wrought for those who take refuge in Thee..."

Our week is going much better. It turns out that Timothy's little bout with fever/diarrhea/dehydration on Sunday turned out to be a viral reaction to the chicken pox vaccination he received 2 weeks ago. On Monday he developed a rash on his abdomen, back and face. It has since cleared up and he feels much better.

We got his glasses re-sized today and hope to work him into wearing them again soon.

Praise - his lungs have cleared and are healthy again (the yucky secretions were also part of his viral reaction to the vaccination)
- the insurance approved payment for his antibiotic breathing treatment!! Thanks for your prayers regarding this issue

Prayer - we will be re-applying to California Children's Services to get him more therapy (previously they had denied him services because he didn't qualify - now he has a diagnosis that should qualify him. please pray that this process would go smoothly.

Psalm 31:14-15a "But as for me, I trust in Thee, O Lord. I say 'Thou art my God'. My times are in Thy hand..."

Sunday was a rough day. Timothy had been having fevers over the last couple of days along with discolored secretions from his lungs and some diarrhea (sorry for that last detail, but it's pertinent info to our update :) Anyway, Sunday morning he woke up with a fever of 104+. We worked all morning to get it down and were just about to pack him up and take him to the ER when the fever finally broke. We decided he had become very dehydrated and so started giving him lots of extra water. He was fine the rest of the day and has not had any more fevers or diarrhea and his lung secretions are beginning to look a little better. We will be following up with the doctor on how to continue treating his condition, but we are very thankful that it seems to be resolved without a trip to the hospital!!!

Our trip to the eye doctor on Wednesday was very profitable. Apparently, last year in June when Timothy had his eye surgeries, his retinal detachment was very bad (stage 5). Now, just over a year later, his right eye has completely healed and the retina is attached and very stable. In the left eye, his retina is still partially detached and the eyeball itself is not really growing at the normal rate like the right eye, but his left eye is light sensitive which is a good thing. We discussed the fact that this stunted growth is causing his left eyelids to remain closed and asked if there is anything to do for this situation. There is!!! and we will be looking into getting him a prosthesis for his left eye to help maintain the muscles and keep the eye open and more natural looking. That's about all we know now. We'll find out more at our consultation appointment in October and we'll keep you posted on this latest adventure!

Praise - His fevers seem to be subsiding
- new info regarding a possible prosthesis for his left eye
- He is still enjoying food by mouth; we are up to 2x a day

Prayer - that his lungs would heal and not be negatively affected by his bout with dehydration
- that the doctors would make the necessary changes in his medications and diet to prevent dehydration from happening again
- that the insurance would approve the antibiotic breathing treatment for his lungs (we have resubmitted our request)

P.S. Be sure to check out the latest July pictures posted last week!
