Timothy James

"Precious to God"

I was admitted to the hospital on Dec. 8th because my amniotic sac was leaking and I had begun to dilate. I was ordered to lie flat on my back until the baby came ( I was due April 2nd!). Well, on Dec. 17th my water broke at 7:15pm and Timothy James decided to come early. He was breech and already on his way out, so the doctor did an emergency C-section and at 10:20 pm he was delivered. He went straight to the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) and has been there ever since. Timothy was only 25 weeks along in his development (a "normal" pregnancy lasts 40 weeks) so he still has a lot of growing to do.

Urgent Prayer Request:

Timothy has been having some difficulty breathing this afternoon and requiring more oxygen. He had a chest x-ray last week and we were just told that there may be some pneumonia in his left lung. Please pray that we would be able to to treat and clear this up at home in the next couple of days. Also, for wisdom regarding what to do. Thank you.

Psalm 3:20-21 "Our soul waits for the Lord. He is our help and our shield. For our heart rejoices in Him because we trust in His holy name."

Age: 21 months
Weight: 20 lbs. 6 oz.
Length: 28 1/2 inches

Sorry I haven't updated you for a while. September has been a fun month for us! Timothy has been healthy and we have been enjoying every minute with him! We've been swimming, going to the church nursery, going out to eat, playing with grandparents, going for walks . . .

His developmental progress continues - he is now rolling over both ways, from back to tummy and tummy to back and even beginning to work his way across the floor to get toys that he wants to play with. He has a physical therapist, Judi, who comes to the house once a week to work with him. It's a challenging hour for him and he doesn't always like what he has to do, but Judi is great with him and he is progressing well.

We have a had a couple of doctor visits this month as well -

1. The ENT says that he is looking good with regard to his trach and whenever the pulmonologist gives the ok, we will begin taking steps toward removing the trach. The process will take place over several months.

2. The pulmonologist says that his lungs are doing well (relatively speaking). We asked if the trach would come out before he is off the oxygen and she said that is possible. We asked her if we could try giving him oxygen through his nose instead of the trach and she said ok when he is wearing his speaking valve. This really surprised me because I was expecting some resistance and there was none - she actually seemed excited/interested to see how he does. She also indicated that if he stays healthy throughout the winter season, she may consider decannulization (taking the trach out) next spring or summer AND she thinks it is possible that he may not need the oxygen anymore at that time! We are a little apprehensive about that but it is exciting to see that she is thinking so positively.

Praise - the doctor appts. were very positive
- he continues to grow and thrive
- he is taking a significant amount of food by mouth and he really enjoys it

Prayer - continued healing and restoration of sight in his left eye
- continued developmental progress
- that he would stay healthy during the winter months and his lungs would continue to grow and strengthen
- contentment for mommy & daddy as we will have to start keeping him at home more in the coming months (we have really been enjoying getting out with him)
