Timothy James

"Precious to God"

I was admitted to the hospital on Dec. 8th because my amniotic sac was leaking and I had begun to dilate. I was ordered to lie flat on my back until the baby came ( I was due April 2nd!). Well, on Dec. 17th my water broke at 7:15pm and Timothy James decided to come early. He was breech and already on his way out, so the doctor did an emergency C-section and at 10:20 pm he was delivered. He went straight to the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) and has been there ever since. Timothy was only 25 weeks along in his development (a "normal" pregnancy lasts 40 weeks) so he still has a lot of growing to do.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!!

Timothy is 2 years old today!

Jon and I have prayed this prayer for Timothy since he was born - based on Psalm 119:17 -
"Lord deal bountifully with Your servant [Timothy] that he may live and keep Your Word." As we celebrate this very special day we are thankful for every day that God has allowed Timothy to live and for every day He has given us with this beautiful child; and we praise Him for what he accomplishes in Timothy's life each and every day.

Thank you to those of you who have continued to lift us up in prayer faithfully. The Lord blesses us and provides daily strength through your prayers. Thanks for being a blessing to us.

PS - check out the new birthday party pics!!

Psalm 66:5 "Come and see the works of God, who is awesome in His deeds toward the sons of men."

Timothy may be seeing more these days due to new developments with his left eye. Last week we had an appointment with an eye doctor and Timothy was fitted for a schleral shell for his left eye. It looks like a giant oval contact lens (about the size of a quarter), only it does not have any corrective properties. It is a piece of hard plastic which goes into the eye socket and covers all of his eye, the white part too (unlike a regular contact). As you can see in his pictures since about February, his eye had begun to close due the anatomy not being very good. It was not growing at the same rate as the right eye and there was little vision, although we do know that the eye is at least light sensitive. This new shell enables him to hold his left eye open more and will help to stimulate the bone growth around the eye (and we believe may even stimulate more vision in that eye). The doctor explained that without the shell, over time, the eye would begin to appear more sunken and could lead to facial deformity. We are very grateful for the knowledgeable doctors and wonderful advances in medicine that God had provided for Timothy.

As we approach his 2nd birthday (on Saturday, Dec. 17th!), we are in awe of all that God has done in his life and in our lives. Psalm 66:8-12 expresses our feelings:
"Bless our God, O peoples, and sound His praise abroad, who keeps us in life and does not allow our feet to slip. For You have tried us, O God; You have refined us as silver is refined. You brought us into the net; You laid an oppressive burden upon us. . .We went through fire and through water, yet You brought us out into a place of abundance."

Praise - We are in the process of moving and through it, most of our nurses have stayed with us and God has provided for the gaps left by some of the nursing schedule changes
-his therapists have agreed to continue working with him as we are in this transition period (living with my parents while our house is finished being built)
-he has arrived on the other side of his cold without any major complications!
-he seems to be tolerating wearing his new schleral shell

Prayer - it looks like there are some potential problems with our insurance coverage again; pray for things to be worked out quickly and smoothly and that God would provide for all the medical care that Timothy needs
- that the new schleral shell would indeed stimulate, rather than hinder, vision development in the left eye
- the pulmonologist who had been working with Timothy since he came home from the NICU has moved and now we are getting to know new doctors (that can be a hard transition period since they don't know him as well as his previous doctor)
-we have an appointment with the new pulmonologist on Tuesday of next week and Timothy will be getting his monthly shots to protect him from contracting RSV (an illness which can be very serious for preemies)
