Timothy James

"Precious to God"

I was admitted to the hospital on Dec. 8th because my amniotic sac was leaking and I had begun to dilate. I was ordered to lie flat on my back until the baby came ( I was due April 2nd!). Well, on Dec. 17th my water broke at 7:15pm and Timothy James decided to come early. He was breech and already on his way out, so the doctor did an emergency C-section and at 10:20 pm he was delivered. He went straight to the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) and has been there ever since. Timothy was only 25 weeks along in his development (a "normal" pregnancy lasts 40 weeks) so he still has a lot of growing to do.

Psalm 107:19-22 "Then they cried out to the Lord in their trouble; He saved them out of their distresses. He sent His word and healed them, and delivered them from their destructions. Let them give thanks to the Lord for His lovingkindness, and for His wonders to the sons of men! Let them also offer sacrifices of thanksgiving, and tell of His works with joyful singing."

We feel like this is our testimony! God has worked so much healing in Timothy's life and we want to give Him all the glory and share with you the mighty works of the Lord!

Timothy has really been thriving this winter. We have only experienced a couple of colds and a few allergy symptoms -Praise the Lord! Thank you for your continued prayers for his general health.

He has been weaned off all medications except 3 - his kidney medication and 2 breathing treatments. Weaning him off the diuretic was definitely a praise because because it is hard on his kidneys. Now with all the other oral medications out of the way, the kidney doctor will closely monitor his blood chemistry to see if any changes should be made regarding his kidney medication.

The lung doctor is very pleased with the condition of his lungs so far. Now we are working on weaning him down on his oxygen requirement. Once he is off oxygen, they will make plans to remove the tracheostomy (which will 1st require removal of his extremely enlarged tonsils to ensure a clear airway).

We have several appointments with various eye doctors during the next 2 months. One next week is for a new glasses prescription. Eye appointments are usually pretty uncomfortable for Timothy so please pray that they go smoothly and the doctors can see what they need to see quickly.

Timothy continues to eat about 2 jars of baby food by mouth a day. He still gets the greater number of calories from his formula feedings through his tummy tube.

We had a speech/language evaluation in January and the therapist is recommending that Timothy go for speech therapy once a week. It will really be a big play session in order to encourage his vocalizations. He is working on a few vocal words like "up" and "uh-huh", but he is also beginning to communicate through some sign language that we have been working on with him.

His weekly visual and physical therapy sessions are also going well. His visual therapist works on his visual skills as well as his eye-hand coordination. His physical therapist is working on exercises and positions which strengthen his back and abdominal muscles. He is working on sitting and taking weight through his arms, shoulders and legs (necessary skills for activities such as crawling and walking). We will be getting him a walker to aide his independent walking skills and get him upright and more mobile.

As you can see, exciting things are happening, and on top of it all we are in the middle of moving to a new house. We should be in some time in March and I hope to begin providing you with more frequent updates once we are settled.

Be sure to check out the new February pics!
